HOW TO BE MORE ORGANIZED...

Take a minute to think about how much time you actually waste throughout your day due to disorganization. Perhaps, you spend 5 minutes looking for a file, another 10 minutes looking for an important email and another 5 minutes looking for your to-do list under the large stack of paperwork all over your desk. Before you know it, an hour has passed and you have literally just wasted valuable time that you will never get back. Many people struggle with disorganization and it can really end up costing a high price. Disorganisation can hinder the progress you are making in your small business, it can hinder you from tasks such as bookkeeping and filing, it can block your creativity and generally hold you back from being productive and effective.

Organise your day at work:

Get organised during the first 15 minutes of your day. When you walk into the office, spend the first 15 minutes looking at what you need to achieve in your day. Make a to-do list by following the below steps:

Step 1: Write down all the tasks that you need to complete. If they are large tasks with excessive steps needed, feel free to break these down into small, manageable steps. A task shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours to complete.

Step 2: Run through the tasks and allocate them as either A (very important, or very urgent) or F (Unimportant, or not urgent). Run through the list until you can clearly see the most important tasks. Re-write in priority order.

Now simply work through your list dealing with the A-list first. Strike the tasks off one by one once completed.

Use technology:

Make use of digital calendars and planners! Many individuals use these to help organize their day and help with their scheduling. Many digital calendars even have colour coding to help you arrange items by importance. Colour co-ordinating your day can instantly draw your attention to which tasks are important. Software such as QuickBooks can help to schedule tasks for certain clients.

Disorganization can cost you your business, decrease your productivity and add stress to your life. Therefore, devoting time and effort to getting organized can really help you in the long run.

Start small with little steps such as clearing up your desk and use technology to help you along the way.
